Map of France showing where the carp fishing lake Etang de la Vilotte is located.

The lake is situated in the heart of the Park Regional Naturel (nature reserve) of the Perigord-Limousin in France. This area represents 1900 square kilometres of protected land. It was created in March 1998 to protect this area of outstanding beauty.

The small village of Marval is in the Haute-Vienne department in the Limousin region of France at an altitude of 320m. It has just under 600 inhabitants and forms a small community. The village is actually very close to the Dordogne, giving visitors the best of both worlds.

There are plenty of touristic points to visit within an hour’s drive from l’Etang de la Vilotte.

The small towns and villages in the area often have festivals and community events to celebrate all sorts. For example, the little town of St Mathieu hosts a medieval festival each August which is well worth a visit.

Within a ten minute drive from the lake to either St Mathieu or Cussac you will find petrol stations, supermarkets, restaurants, boulangeries, pharmacie and tabacs. Piegut Pluviers has a wonderful lively market every Wednesday up to 1pm and is only a short drive from the lake.
